Operates equipment and machinery used for processes such as packaging, bindery, finishing and print production not requiring highly specialized training or certifications. 

May do setups, adjustments and cleanups. 

At higher levels may include equipment with multiple inline processes. 

Operates equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.

Reads and interprets work orders, blueprints and diagrams to select, position and secure machinery. Adjusts machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, within quality guidelines and in a timely fashion. High school diploma or its equivalent preferred.

May have to complete formal training in area of specialty with no to minimal prior experience in the field or in a related area.

Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.

Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.

Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.

Typically reports to a supervisor/manager.
Previous experience: None to minimal 
Training time: 2-6 weeks or less
Speed to efficiency: 2-3 months or less
 

General Examples: Palletizer, Surface Mount II, Printer 1-2 color, Machine II, Packaging II, Folding, Cutter-Programs, Photocopy multicolor (Ink or Toner)

Qualifications

Equipment Operator - Bindery

As an Equipment Operator in the Bindery department, your role is to operate the Stitcher and other bindery equipment as an expert and a high attention to detail.  You will be operating the Saddle Stitcher, along with other bindery equipment so we are looking for someone who already has this experience with this type of equipment.    

Stitcher and bindery equipment are professional printing machines that finish documents, with stitchers (saddle stitchers) using wire staples to bind booklets, magazines, and catalogs along the spine fold, while broader bindery equipment includes folders, cutters, perfect binders, laminators, and creasers for a wide range of finishing processes like folding, trimming, and applying finishes to create professional printed products.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain bindery printing equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Take an active role in quality control as the bindery area is at the back end of the workflow.
  • Is mechanically inclined – has experience running some type of equipment. 

Requirements

  • Basic mathematical skills i.e. add, subtract, multiply, divide
  • Able to lift up to 50lb with assistance.
  • Familiarity with Windows based software.
  • Read and interpret work orders
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Great communication with other team members
  • Work effectively under time constraints.
  • Is a person that is responsible for their own performance and output. 
  • Has a good attendance track record and is very reliable.

Position Details

  • Full Time with benefits.
  • 8:00-5:00 Monday through Friday.
  • $18-$23 – Depending on previous experience running bindery equipment.

Helpful Skills (list out skills that are necessary for the job – things they will do each day)

  • Able to learn and interpret information from visual cues for troubleshooting purposes.
  • An understanding of process color printing and color theory.
