Summary
Reporting to the Production Operations Supervisor, the Packaging Operator will be responsible for loading and unloading finished products and raw materials for customers' use, operating packaging equipment, as well as other assigned duties. This position is Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM

- Follows and complies with all appropriate company safety rules and regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, and any and all local, state, or federal agencies to ensure a healthy and safe work environment
- Follows all appropriate safety procedures while loading, and unloading product
- Unload dry sugar railcars for our automated bagging system for 50# and 100 # bags
- Load finished product onto van trailers
- Operate forklift, tractors, trailers and/or moving railcars using hand jack or forklift
- Prepares work orders for major maintenance or repairs to equipment
- Ability to recognize emergency situations and implement appropriate responses
- May be required to work flexible hours and be able to work Monday thru Sunday, if needed
- Clean and maintain assigned work areas
- Turn off equipment when not in use
- Immediately report any vehicle or equipment defects, accidents, injuries, and vehicle or equipment damage
- Immediately complete all required accident or incident reports
- Assist in cleaning and repairing tasks
- Use of all types of hand tools (I.E.: railcar bars, railcar vibrator, pneumatic railcar gate opener, shovels, wrenches, etc.)
- Operates power/air tools and equipment (I.E.: rail car bar, fork lift, etc.)
- Performs other duties may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong safety performance and value for safety
- Knowledge of equipment operation and use of tools
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Flexibility in accepting change and an attitude of continuous improvement
- Able to wear protective gear correctly during the work day
- Proper handling of food grade chemicals
Strong attendance record
Willingness and ability to work afternoon and evening shifts, and weekends
- Willing to work in a fast-paced environment
Required education and experience
- High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent in job related experience.
Work environment and physical demands
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds routinely
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, and walk long distances
- Ability to stand, crouch, kneel, and sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to bend, stretch, and twist
- Ability to reach, push, pull, grasp
