Position Summary

Tacten is hiring Rope Access Level 3 Technicians to support the Syncrude Spring 2026 Shutdown. In this role, you'll be a vital part of a high-performing team, completing complex work at height with precision, efficiency, and an unwavering commitment to safety. Position Details:

  • Site: Syncrude

  • Location: Fort McMurray, AB

  • Tentative Start Date: March 2026

  • Tentative End Date: June 2026

  • Rotation: 6 days on / 1 day off

  • Hours: 12 hrs./day

Responsibilities
  • Ensure all rope access activities are performed safely and in compliance with IRATA standards and company policies.
  • Perform rope access inspections and maintenance on bridge structures, towers, and equipment in winter conditions.

  • Access bridge surfaces using rope techniques to safely remove snow, ice, and debris from critical areas.

  • Implement safety measures and monitor conditions to manage hazards associated with cold, icy, or slippery surfaces while performing repairs or maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with minor repairs or installation tasks on bridge structures as needed while on rope access.

  • Document work completed and report any safety or structural concerns to supervisors to ensure ongoing maintenance and compliance.

  • Plan and execute rigging setups, ensuring operational safety and compliance with site and IRATA requirements.
  • Conduct pre-job hazard assessments, toolbox meetings, and rescue plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed, inspections, and safety checks.
  • Perform rescues and emergency response procedures as required.
  • Mentor and evaluate lower-level technicians (Level 1 and 2) in safe work practices.
  • Support continuous improvement in safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead daily rope access operations, ensuring all work is conducted safely and efficiently.
  • Oversee and coordinate team assignments, ensuring work meets clients and company expectations.
  • Liaise with site management and clients on work scopes, safety, and progress updates.
  • Perform equipment inspections, maintain certification records, and ensure site compliance.
Requirements
  • IRATA Level 3 Certification (valid and in good standing)
  • Journeyman ticketed would be an asset
  • First aid certification required
  • CSO or BSO or CSTS-2020
  • ESC or OSSA Confined Space Monitor and Entry
  • Strong work ethics
  • Ability to maintain positive working relations with clients
  • Exceptional safety and quality awareness
  • Ability to solve problems and manage time effectively
  • Self-motivated and capable of working at a high technical and performance level
  • Valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract
