We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Equine Program Manager to oversee and coordinate all aspects of our Tulsa Boys' Home Therapeutic Equine Program.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Insure that the Tulsa Boys' Home Equine Program is always conducted in a manner that emphasizes safety first and foremost.
  • Insures that facilities, equipment, tack, etc. are maintained in a well-organized, orderly, first-class manner.
  • Insure the coordination of all equine assisted therapy sessions with the appropriate TBH staff.
  • Establish and maintain schedules for the orderly, effective and efficient management and care of all the outdoor facilities, horses and cattle, (i.e., feed, vet., farrier, vehicles and other equipment, etc.).
  • Insures that proper and appropriate "pasture management" practices are conducted, including horse rotation, manure spreading, brush hogging, hay bailing, etc.
  • Maintain a positive relationship with the Exceller Fund Retirement Program staff, and other equine rescue programs and coordinate all horse transactions with them.
  • Identify, establish and coordinate the implementation of "Horsemanship" skills training/ curriculum for the TBH residents.
  • Identify and coordinate volunteers and other equine clinicians willing to conduct clinics and Horsemanship skill training for the TBH residents.
  • Participates as a member of the Administrative team.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

OTHER EXPECTATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct all actions to reflect the values and principles of the Tulsa Boys' Home. Help create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment. Maintain and support an environment that encourages teamwork, interdependence, a collaborative and solution-focused approach to problem solving and ethical behavior. Follow chain of command, and support management decisions at all levels. Ability to interact in a positive and friendly manner with a variety of individuals including clients, their families, staff, volunteers and all other stakeholders. Above all, be polite, courteous, and respect the dignity of everyone in any and all interactions in the conduct of the day to day affairs of Tulsa Boys' Home.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prefer Bachelor's degree or certification in some type of Equine management.
  • Substantial background and knowledge in the management of an Equine Facility (barn, arenas, fencing, etc.).
  • Substantial experience and knowledge in the overall care and feeding of horses.
  • Excellent "Horsemanship" skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with adolescent males, as well as with adults.
  • Is an effective teacher/instructor for adolescent males.
  • Extremely patient, well organized and responsible.
  • Able to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a therapeutic treatment team.
  • Is open to learning new concepts and ideas, and implementing them.
  • Has an overall positive outlook and attitude about life in general.
