About the role: NSW is working to establish a Common Digital Foundation (CDF) - a shared, secure, and interoperable foundational data platform. As a Data Architect/Data Engineer, you will be a core member of the team responsible for designing, building, and managing the infrastructure that underpins the CDF. You will work collaboratively with developers, data scientists, and other key stakeholders to ensure the CDF is VAULTIS (visible, accessible, understandable, linked, trustworthy, interoperable, and secure) compliant and scalable to meet current and future needs of NSW. This role requires a blend of data architectural skills and hands-on engineering expertise.
Responsibilities:
  • Define and implement a next-generation data architecture for the CDF to ensure long-term scalability.
  • Create and manage robust and reliable data pipelines from diverse data sources (e.g., structured, semi-structured, and unstructured) aligning with data governance policies, security standards and industry best practice.
  • Develop and implement data standards, procedures, and definitions for data governance as required aligning with higher headquarters policies when applicable.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies and tools.
  • Ensure data curation processes maintain accuracy and integrity through a quality assurance process.
  • Work closely with data analysts and data scientists to ensure data solutions are accessible and reliable.
  • Design and implement effective data storage solutions using appropriate technologies (e.g., cloud, on-premise).
  • Contribute to the documentation of data architecture, data pipelines, data catalog, and ETL capabilities.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 15+ years of experience
  • Proven experience in building and managing data pipelines, data storage, and associated infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programing language (e.g., Python, Java, etc.) for data processing and automation.
  • Experience in data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Understanding of data warehousing solutions and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and their data services.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and tools, as well as data security.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to resolving issues.

Education and Certification Requirements:
  • Degree in Computer Science or related field. An advanced degree is a plus.

Citizenship and Clearance requirements:
  • Active Secret clearance required; TS SCI clearance preferred

Location: On site; San Diego/NSW Imperial Beach
Travel: under 30%
Work Environment: PMAT offices as needed. In some cases, work in a government facility may be required. Travel may be required for customer engagement, team coordination, and potentially for business development.
