We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and reliable Van Transportation Aide with experience supporting students who are uniquely challenged. The primary responsibility is to ensure safe, timely, and respectful transport of students to and from school or program activities. This role requires strong communication skills, adherence to safety protocols, and a proactive approach to addressing the individual needs of students with diverse abilities.

## Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate and/or supervise wheelchair-accessible or standard school transportation vans in accordance with all traffic laws, school policies, and safety guidelines.
- Assist students during loading and unloading, including securing seating, applying appropriate restraints, and using adaptive equipment as needed.
- Provide support to students with unique challenges (e.g., mobility, sensory, communication, behavioral) to ensure a calm and comfortable ride.
- Monitor students throughout transit, addressing any medical or safety concerns, and maintain a calm, respectful demeanor.
- Communicate clearly with drivers, school staff, families, and relevant professionals about daily transportation needs, concerns, and incidents.
- Maintain accurate daily records, including attendance, mileage, incidents, and any special accommodations provided.
- Follow individualized education plans (IEPs) or 504 Plans, behavior support plans, and medical precautions as directed.
- Assist with routine hygiene and feeding needs if specified in plans and allowed by policy and training.
- Report any vehicle maintenance issues to the Transportation Supervisor promptly and coordinate timely repairs.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of the vehicle before and after trips; perform basic vehicle safety checks.
- Implement behavior management strategies as trained, prioritizing safety and de-escalation.
- Maintain professional boundaries and protect students' dignity, privacy, and rights at all times.
- Participate in ongoing training on topics such as safety procedures, first aid, CPR, de-escalation, and inclusion best practices.

Skills

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record; experience in van driving
  • Experience as a driver or commercial driver demonstrating reliability and safety awareness
  • Knowledge of transportation safety protocols, including heavy lifting techniques and vehicle maintenance basics
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, staff, and parents
  • Ability to operate various types of vehicles such as school buses, shuttle vans,
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with a friendly and professional demeaner
