Responsibilities
What your days look like as an Operations Director:

Reporting to the Vice President, Operations–Quebec, the Operations Director is responsible for all stevedoring activities, team management, cost control, and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders in the port community. You play a key role in the performance, safety, and growth of the Sept‑Îles terminal.

Operations & Performance
  • Lead all operational activities for the terminals under your responsibility.
  • Optimize the use of human resources and equipment.
  • Prepare short-, medium-, and long‑term operational plans.
  • Define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement necessary corrective measures.
  • Manage special vessel requests, required equipment, and service providers related to operations.
Financial Management
  • Manage the operational budget and contribute to CAPEX planning.
  • Ensure the preparation of all documentation required for billing.
  • Ensure the accuracy of operational data to support post‑operation cost analysis.
  • Approve purchase requests according to authorization levels.
Customer Relations & Business Development
  • Maintain excellent relationships with customers, port partners, and suppliers.
  • Actively participate in after‑sales service.
  • Represent the company within the community.
  • Occasionally prepare and analyze bids in collaboration with the sales team.
Human Resources & Labor Relations
  • Supervise the team (superintendents, clerks, and unionized employees).
  • Participate in recruitment, workforce planning, and skill development.
  • Manage labor relations in a unionized environment (grievances, labor relations, collective agreement renewal).
  • Lead disciplinary processes when required.
Health, Safety & Security
  • Ensure compliance with the prevention plan and strict application of H&S rules.
  • Oversee and approve accident investigations, corrective actions, and H&S compliance.
  • Ensure the drafting, updating, and implementation of the terminal's security plan.
Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to improvement projects (infrastructure, equipment, processes).
  • Analyze operational failures, propose solutions, and lead corrective initiatives.

Qualifications
To succeed as an Operations Director, you should have:
  • A relevant university degree (management, logistics, operations, engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience managing teams in an operational and/or industrial environment, ideally unionized.
  • Experience in the maritime, mining, or port industry (a strong asset).

  • Inspiring leadership focused on collaboration and team development.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
  • You are bilingual in French and English, both spoken and written: Given the diversity of our team and the need to communicate with local, Canada‑wide, and international clients and partners, proficiency in spoken and written French and English is required.
  • Ability to manage complex, fast‑paced, and constantly changing environments.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft 365 suite.
  • Strong organizational skills, rigor, autonomy, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to work in an operational environment with variable conditions, including 24/7/365 operations and onsite presence at the terminal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, respond quickly to urgent situations, and demonstrate occasional availability outside regular working hours.
