About

Hybrid Remote – Phillips Precision / Inspection Arsenal

About Us

Phillips Precision (a Weyland Group Company) is an innovative manufacturer of modular inspection fixtures under the Inspection Arsenal brand. We help manufacturers reduce setup time, increase throughput, and improve inspection efficiency through lean, repeatable fixture systems. We are seeking a hands-on Application Specialist / Product Engineer to bridge the gap between product innovation, customer engagement, and engineering execution.

Position Overview

The Application Specialist / Product Engineer plays a dual role in supporting both customer-facing demonstrations and internal engineering initiatives. This position works directly with customers, distributors, and the internal engineering team to:

  • Demonstrate and promote the capabilities of the Inspection Arsenal product line.
  • Design custom fixture solutions and support new product development.
  • Generate accurate engineering quotes and manage project execution from concept through delivery.

This is a hybrid remote position—a blend of remote work with periodic on-site collaboration at our Massachusetts facility for hands-on demos, prototyping, and production support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Demonstrations & Applications Support: Conduct live or virtual product demonstrations for customers, distributors, and trade shows. Provide technical consulting and fixture design support to end-users.
  • 3D CAD Modeling and Drawing Support: Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings in Onshape (or SolidWorks) for new products and custom fixtures. Manage engineering change orders, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions related to the Kinetic Jaw Plate (KJP) product line and new designs.
  • Prototyping Support: Collaborate with manufacturing to prototype, test, and validate new products or fixture designs using 3D printing, manual, and CNC machining tools as available.
  • Customer Fixture Engineering and Quotation/Order Entry: Oversee the entire fixture design and quotation process, including requests for quote (RFQ), pricing, order entry, assembly, and functional testing—managing each project from cradle to grave.
  • Stage-Gate New Product Development: Participate in and help master the stage-gate NPD process, from concept ideation and design validation through patent development and product launch.
  • Product Development & Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with sales and production teams to identify opportunities for product enhancement and new product introduction (NPI).
  • Documentation & Quality Support: Generate and maintain technical documentation, BOMs, assembly drawings, and proposal drawings. Support internal quality processes through corrective actions and engineering reviews.
  • Sales Engineering Collaboration: Work closely with sales to prepare technical quotations and identify fixture or product solutions for specific customer applications.
  • Marketing & Demo Readiness: Maintain demo kits, develop visuals, and support creation of technical content for marketing materials and trade shows — including supporting sales with technical demo support and scope development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, applications, or product engineering environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (Onshape or SolidWorks required).
  • Strong understanding of inspection, metrology, and fixture design principles.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping tools (3D printing, manual, or CNC machining).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a hybrid remote setting.

Work Environment

  • Hybrid remote with periodic travel for customer visits, trade shows, and on-site collaboration.
  • Collaborative, innovative environment focused on lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and product excellence.
