Experience: Eighteen (18) months experience as an Occupational Therapist in an acute healthcare system environment.
License: Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California.
Certifications: Current BLS Certification.
Must-Have: Home health experience and geriatric experience required.
Description:
Occupational Therapy addresses the physical, cognitive, psychosocial, sensory-perceptual, and other aspects of performance in various contexts and environments to support engagement in occupations that affect physical and mental health, well-being, and quality of life.
The Occupational Therapist II assesses individual patients' Occupational Therapy needs.
Establishes and implements an occupation-based treatment program and goals using the therapeutic use of everyday activities to develop, regain, or improve the skills needed for daily living in various settings.
Reviews physicians' referrals for occupational therapy services.
Utilizes information obtained from patients' records relative to their medical history.
Administers evidence-based exams and screening tests to identify impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, and levels of performance.
Performs evaluation procedures to determine patients' performance capacities and deficits such as functional, cognitive, visual, and perceptual abilities.
Analyzes evaluation test results to determine a plan of care, including appropriate interventions, goals, expected intensity, duration of therapy, and recommendations for discharge.
Provides education to patients and caregivers regarding the purpose of activities, use of equipment, home exercises, and activity.
Performs regular re-examinations, measures outcomes, and seeks feedback from patients, caregivers, and the interdisciplinary medical team.
Develops and modifies treatment programs to meet the changing needs of patients.
Oversees the clinical work of the Occupational Therapy Assistant and Rehabilitation Aide.
Manages multiple patients simultaneously.
Provides services and required documentation accurately and timely, in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.
Participates in continuing education and incorporates information into practice.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists in educating and orienting new staff, acts as a fieldwork educator for students and interns, and participates as an instructor in an established class or program.
Participates in educational events within the community.
Attends specific clinical education coursework that meets the guidelines of the California Board of Occupational Therapy and provides in-services to staff.
May require travel to patients' homes for home evaluations.
Demonstrates competency in Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Quality Reporting Program.
Experience with a range of diagnoses, including general medicine, orthopedics, neurology, and cardiopulmonary, is preferred.
Previous experience with Microsoft Office and healthcare database systems is also preferred.
Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
