Under general supervision, the Fabricator and Paint Specialist is a multi-skilled role responsible for both the initial fabrication and final finishing of metal components. This individual will operate machinery such as press brakes and lasers, as well as prepare and paint finished products like side dump trailers and feeding systems. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of fabrication expertise and painting knowledge, ensuring quality from start to finish.
Essential Duties May Include:
Fabrication & Machinery:
- Read blueprints and determine measurements to accurately fabricate parts.
- Run machines such as press brake and laser to punch, cut, shape, and bend metal to specifications.
- Complete required machine setup, load/unload machines, and manufacture programmed parts.
- Maximize efficiencies in changeover regarding tools, equipment, jigs, and carts.
- Utilize required tools (i.e., caliper, micrometers, tape measures, gauges, protractors) to adhere to all quality standards.
- Operate overhead crane and forklift as needed to move materials.
Painting & Finishing:
- Set up the paint system for the appropriate pre-determined paint formula.
- Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, and remove corrosion to prepare fabricated steel items for painting.
- Operate spray equipment or other painting/coating equipment as required.
- Clean and maintain painting, coating, ventilation, compressed air, and personal protective equipment.
- Read orders to complete the paint schematic for the equipment.
- Perform inspections of welds and prepared surfaces before painting.
- Calculate the levels of paint needed for each part or piece of equipment.
General Responsibilities:
- Practice safety awareness at all times and adhere to standard safety procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as directed.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for completed equipment.
- Manage time effectively to meet required deadlines.
- Work in a team environment and have a willingness to perform other jobs as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in heavy industrial fabrication or painting.
- Previous work experience in both fabrication and painting is a significant advantage.
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Advanced blueprint reading and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, decimals).
- Ability to read, comprehend, and write English at an advanced level.
- Working knowledge of tools, supplies, and equipment used in both fabrication and painting.
- Must be able to obtain OSHA-required Forklift Certification.
- Demonstrated commitment to a safety culture.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
- Continually required to stand and walk.
- Frequently required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
- Ability to pass a FIT test to paint in the paint booth.
- Must wear appropriate clothing and personal protective equipment for all operations.
