Surgical Scheduler Job Description:

Under limited supervision, the surgical scheduler performs a wide range of surgical scheduling duties for procedures requiring anesthesia.

The surgical scheduler is required to initiate the insurance authorization process, schedule pre-admission testing and clearance appointments, and schedule appropriate surgical procedures with the appropriate facility.

The surgical scheduler has knowledge of urological conditions, urological procedure types, ICD codes, CPT codes, and necessary paperwork and equipment required for the surgical procedure. The surgical scheduler coordinates and/or explains procedural information with patients, primary care physicians, ambulatory surgery centers, and hospitals as needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Schedules patient appointments and surgeries. Responsible for verifying patient's insurance and referrals prior to scheduling the procedure.

  2. Management of assigned physician's surgery/endo schedule, documenting surgery in EMR system (medent), and physician's personal calendar.

  3. Advises patients of scheduled procedures and instructions.

  4. Responsible for updating all departments of upcoming procedures including primary care office, ambulatory surgery center, hospital, and billing department.

  5. Responsible for collecting prior authorization information for all surgical and endovascular interventions.

  6. Schedule all preoperative imaging and testing.

  7. Schedule all appropriate testing and post op office visit as required.

  8. Complete all paperwork for patients and appropriate departments.

  9. Update EMR (MEDEN) for all activities.

  10. Notify all appropriate individuals of scheduling changes.

  11. Keep physicians informed on patient waiting status, reschedules or cancelations.

  12. Optimize physician scheduling and productivity.

  13. Performs other related duties as required or assigned by manager

Qualifications:

-2-3 years experience working in a medical office setting is required.
- 2-3 years experience in medical scheduling or a similar role is required.
- Proficient in using various scheduling systems and EMR systems (Medent) preferred.

-Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently in a dynamic role.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $21.00 per hour
