Position Summary

We are seeking a Project Manager with 3+ years' experience in project management and design oversight for construction projects at a commercial service airport. This individual will be responsible for management of consultants and contractors, design oversight, procurement support, construction monitoring and oversight, coordination of tenants, business partners and other RDU departments, as well as a range of other responsibilities needed to ensure the successful outcome of projects. The project manager will evaluate project design drawings for moderate-sized capital and expense projects for conformance to standards and specifications and coordination with other capital projects and expansion of existing infrastructure.

Projects may include concessions redevelopment in terminal buildings; oversight (design review and construction) of tenant improvements, upgrades to existing buildings' infrastructure including building envelope, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, in addition to campus building assessments and improvements to various other support buildings associated with a fast-growing medium-hub commercial airport.

Requirements:

Knowledge of:

  • Project planning and budgeting
  • Project management best practices
  • Rules, regulations, codes, and guidelines as they relate to building construction and renovations, including fire, electric, energy, utilities, disabilities, egress, elevators, escalators, stairs, and associated permits
  • Airport projects and the airport environment at a medium-hub commercial service airport
  • Principles and practice of public sector management and administration of airport policies and procedures
  • Industry standard building specifications and codes
  • Design, construction, and/or maintenance of basic building components and finishes, electrical and lighting systems, HVAC systems, potable water and sanitary sewage, including gravity and forced main systems, fire alarm and fire protection systems, utilities and communication systems
  • English grammar, spelling, punctuation
  • Principles and practices of basic bookkeeping
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment

Skill in:

  • Developing or rehabilitating building infrastructures and systems
  • Airport facility planning, design, and operation
  • Organization and time management
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
  • Performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Performing basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and ratios
  • Assigning, prioritizing, monitoring, and reviewing work assignment

Ability to:

  • Work collaboratively and effectively with diverse groups and individuals internally and externally. You can convey complex and technical details to individuals with varying degrees of technical knowledge.
  • The ability to manage multiple moderately-complex projects simultaneously and prioritize work between multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Analyze and interpret technical data, reports, specifications, and engineering and architectural plans for facilities at a commercial air carrier airport
  • Prepare, evaluate, monitor, and maintain complex operating budgets and capital program budgets
  • Plan, organize and direct work on complex projects involving building infrastructure and systems; ability to promote consensus and negotiate favorable outcomes
  • Research current and future trends to establish programs for existing and new buildings
  • Create and meet schedules and deadlines of the work
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Accurately organize and maintain paper documents and electronic files
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries

Work Conditions:

  • Positions in this class typically require manual dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and repetitive motions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, a building engineering discipline (i.e., mechanical, electrical, structural, etc.) or related field
  • 3+ years related experience at a commercial service airport the size and scope of RDU with emphasis on the project types noted above
  • Licensed Architect or Engineer desirable but not required
  • Project Management certification desired but not required
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) certification (preferred)
