About The Role
The Sr. Control System Software Engineer (Control Laws) at Rolls-Royce will play a pivotal role within the ACaMS (Advanced Control and Monitoring System) team, focusing on the development and realization of sophisticated control law models for next-generation aero engine control systems. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead technical initiatives, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to cutting-edge advancements in engine control technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical guidance, ensuring compliance with certification standards, and supporting the integration of control laws across various engine components. This role demands strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively with customers and internal teams, including embedded systems, software development, hardware engineering, safety, and certification specialists. The goal is to deliver high-performance, reliable, and cyber-secure control systems that enhance engine efficiency, diagnostics, and safety.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering with 2+ years of product development experience
  • Master's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
  • PhD in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience with requirements management and systems engineering
  • U.S. citizenship is required for consideration
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded safety-critical software engineering (preferred)
  • Proficiency with model-based software design and simulation tools such as Simulink
  • Experience developing control systems and verification/testing frameworks
  • Knowledge of agile software development methodologies
  • Understanding of safety standards including DO‑178C, DO‑331, DO‑333, and ARP‑4754
  • Experience with model-based design, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and multi-platform verification
  • Strong communication skills for technical presentations and stakeholder engagement

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the control law development team, ensuring project milestones and certification objectives are achieved
  • Develop, analyze, and communicate control law requirements in collaboration with customers and internal teams
  • Lead problem-solving and risk assessment activities related to control system development
  • Support planning, scheduling, and progress tracking in alignment with project management practices
  • Represent the control law team in customer meetings, requirements discussions, and system integration activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety and certification standards throughout the development lifecycle
  • Build and maintain a high-performance, collaborative team culture
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including embedded systems, hardware, safety, and certification engineers
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in control system design and development processes
