Centro Hispano is a non-profit that promotes empowerment and civic participation in the Latino and multicultural community to become active citizens of East Tennessee through education and social services. Centro Hispano's Youth and Family Engagement Department includes after school programs, parent education, youth development and college access programs, and educational advocacy.
Position Description
The Post-Secondary Coordinator will focus on post-secondary access for underrepresented groups by working with Latino and Immigrant youth and families to help them prepare for college and understand their post-secondary options. Centro Hispano de East Tennessee is seeking a passionate individual to build upon past programs to maintain a comprehensive post-secondary access approach to serve Latino and Immigrant youth and families in the East Tennessee region.This may include providing individualized postsecondary coaching and guidance, coordinating college tours and workshops, and hosting informational sessions that respond to student and family interests related to postsecondary and career pathways. In addition, this individual should be prepared to help conduct professional development training for professionals from other agencies on how to support Latinos and Immigrants (particularly marginally documented or undocumented students) to pursue higher education, and tobe involved with advocacy efforts around educational equity for Latino and Immigrant youth. This position would facilitate our Escalera LEAD program. Candidates must be comfortable navigating a bilingual and bicultural learning environment and workplace.
This position exists to:
- Bridge barriers so a growing Latino and Immigrant population can access an affordable, attainable postsecondary education and meaningful employment
- Build relationships with local postsecondary institutions and employers to create pathways for Latino and Immigrant youth and young adults
- Share resources and knowledge about pathways for Latino and immigrant youth with local educators, counselors, partners, and advocates serving Latino and Immigrant youth
Responsibilities
- Gather and maintain information on postsecondary options and scholarships available to local youth
- Coordinate individual meetings with youth and families to provide coaching on postsecondary and financial aid options
- Develop an annual calendar and plan activities for the Escalera LEAD to provide local Latinx youth with leadership development, postsecondary access opportunities, and mentorship.
- Plan 2-3 college or career tours/experiential learning opportunities each academic year
- Lead presentations to high school classrooms and clubs on postsecondary options
- Develop trainings for parents, school counselors and other youth serving organizations focused on college access for Latino/immigrant students
- Support the Sr. Coordinator of Postsecondary & Workforce Pathways in advocacy efforts related to postsecondary access for Latinx youth
- Support the Sr. Coordinator in organizing and coordinating the annual Caminos College & Career Fair and Golden Eagle Scholarship
- Organize annual End-of-Year Celebration for HS seniors and scholarship recipients
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, or Associate Degree with 2-3 years of relevant experience
- Team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required
- Knowledge of youth development and/or experience working with adolescents
- Experience with or passion for working with culturally diverse populations
- Ability to work independently
- Comfort presenting to groups, or willingness to develop public speaking skills
- Knowledge of google suite (gmail, sheets, docs)
- Knowledge of college access and financial aid process (strongly preferred)
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Performance Expectations
- Postsecondary Access programs are meeting performance standards and responsive to community needs
- Develops strong relationships with PSA clients who feel supported to pursue goals
- Develops and maintains strong partner relationships with other organizations, schools, and institutions of higher education
Salary, Schedule and Benefits
- $40,000 - $42,000 a year, dependent on education and experience
- 38+ hours per week
- Schedule: Negotiable. Approximately one evening (6-8pm) per week and occasional weekend events
