JOB
Performs difficult skilled technical and administrative work planning, directing, and participating in field inspections and reinspection's of residential, commercial, and industrial facilities for compliance with building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and fire codes, reviewing permit applications, issuing permits, assisting the public, preparing and maintaining files and records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Planning Director. Continuous supervision is exercised over the Building Inspector.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs field inspections of commercial construction and existing structures for compliance with building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes; maintains records of inspections.Oversees building permit issuance and reviews all major permit applications; verifies calculations, permit fees and related permit information.Performs plan reviews.Answers questions and responds to inquiries from private citizens, contractors, and builders; provides interpretation of building codes, ordinances, and regulations.Hears and makes investigations of complaints of inspection activities, takes appropriate action; prepares evidence and testifies in court on code violation cases.Performs other assigned duties.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
High school diploma or equivalent.Seven to ten years of experience in a related field or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Valid driver's license.Obtain Building, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical certifications within two years of hire.Fire Level III Standard certification within two years of hire preferred.
