About

Creative in Residence – Movement Teaching Artist (2025–2026 School Year)
Location: Bronx, NY Public Elementary Schools
Type: Temporary | Part-Time | In-Person
Schedule: 3–9 hours/week teaching + 1 hour/week planning over 20 weeks

We're writing a new story — and you could help shape it.

Global Writes and Digital Age Learning (GW/DAL) are seeking a bold, imaginative, and passionate Movement Teaching Artist to join our Creative in Residence program and bring the power of dance and embodied expression to Bronx public school students.

This is more than a teaching role — it's a creative residency where you'll inspire young minds, collaborate with educators, and co-create transformative moments through the arts. Through movement, storytelling, and interdisciplinary exploration, you'll help students discover confidence, creativity, and community.

What You'll Do

  • Lead a 20-week residency (after-school, 3–9 hours/week + planning) in collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Design and teach engaging movement-based lessons rooted in your creative practice (dance, choreography, somatics, or other movement forms).
  • Encourage students to explore wellness, identity, and storytelling through physical expression.
  • Integrate movement with other creative disciplines (writing, visual arts, digital media) to expand pathways for student voice.
  • Work closely with the GW/DAL team for planning, professional development, and end-of-program reflection.
  • Coordinate with schools to present a final showcase where students share their work.
  • Take care of essential admin (weekly reports, timesheets, supply requests, etc.).

Who You Are

  • A practicing movement artist (dancer, choreographer, teaching artist in somatics, theater movement, hip-hop, cultural dance, or other embodied practice).
  • Experienced in teaching elementary or middle school students, especially in multi-session workshops.
  • Passionate about arts education, youth empowerment, and cultivating confidence through the body.
  • Highly organized, communicative, and flexible in fast-paced environments.
  • Able to lead with curiosity, empathy, and creative energy.
  • Comfortable collaborating with both educators and young learners.

Education & Experience

  • BFA, BA, or equivalent experience in Dance, Theater, Education, or a related creative field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bonus: Prior experience working in NYC public schools or community-based arts programs.
