Job Summary
The Director of Systems Engineering is responsible for leading enterprise IT infrastructure across corporate data centers and multi-cloud platforms. This role oversees the planning, installation, configuration, and support of critical systems - including compute, storage, networking, identity, and security - that enable business operations.
The Director ensures stability, security, and cost-effectiveness of services while driving technology modernization and alignment with business priorities. Responsibilities include collaborating with IT, stakeholders, and vendors to evaluate solutions, resolve issues, and document system changes. This leader manages a team of engineers, fostering operational excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement to deliver reliable and scalable enterprise systems.
Essential Functions
Leadership & People Management
Lead and mentor a team of systems engineers, driving accountability, professional development, and team performance.
- Set team objectives aligned to enterprise IT goals and ensure delivery of measurable outcomes.
Build succession planning, enable cross-training, and develop technical depth to support business continuity.
Planning & Execution
Develop and communicate a systems engineering roadmap covering short-term, mid-term, and long-term operational needs.
- Demonstrate strong planning and execution skills by driving programs from design through delivery, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality outcomes.
- Partner with department leadership to manage OpEx/CapEx budgets, optimize spend, and drive ROI.
Translate technical initiatives into business outcomes.
Enterprise Infrastructure & Cloud Management
Direct the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of corporate data center and public cloud infrastructures.
- Oversee enterprise IT services including Microsoft Windows environments, virtualization platforms, storage, networking, and backup/recovery platforms.
- Manage the system lifecycle of enterprise identity and access management (IAM/IGA) platforms.
- Integrate and manage the system lifecycle of security and performance technologies (WAF, CIAM, MFA, SEG, etc.).
- Lead patching, upgrades, configurations, capacity planning, monitoring, and MDM platform management for iOS and macOS environments.
- Evaluate and troubleshoot infrastructure, applications, and hardware; conduct root cause analyses; and implement remediation to improve reliability and performance.
Guide integration of new technologies and ensure scalability, security, and reliability.
Support and Knowledge Management
Deploy and incorporate new services into daily operational procedures, ensuring they can be managed, operated, and supported efficiently.
- Manage escalations from end users, leadership, and ticketing systems to maintain appropriate service levels.
- Leverage advanced technical writing skills to create and maintain an enterprise knowledge base.
- Plan, implement, and maintain core network services for applications, data retention, security, updates, and anti-virus/monitoring software.
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, Required
Work Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise IT, systems engineering, or infrastructure operations.
- 5+ years in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience with data center technologies and hybrid cloud.
- Strong background in enterprise identity and access management.
- Familiarity with enterprise security, monitoring, and collaboration tool ecosystems.
- Proven ability to plan and execute technology roadmaps.
Skills
- Proven leadership skills with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing high-performing technical teams.
- Strong technical expertise in enterprise IT systems including Microsoft 365, hybrid cloud, networking, and endpoint security.
- Deep knowledge of identity and access management solutions and integrating them into a cohesive enterprise IAM strategy.
- Proficiency in deploying and managing centralized software distribution, updates, and configurations across Mac and Windows environments.
- Experience with enterprise monitoring and observability solutions to ensure system reliability, performance, and availability.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for executives, business leaders, and technical stakeholders.
