Title: Maintenance Technician

Purpose of Position: The maintenance technician duties include overall building and grounds maintenance & repair functions and some custodial duties. 

Employment Status: Full-time Reporting

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Location: Assigned Campus
 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Cleans, sweeps, mops, scrubs, seals and polish floors by hand or machine as required
  • Responds to maintenance tickets in a timely manner
  • Assess facilities for repairs needed and identifies hazards or risks in and outside of the building
  • Repairs, moves, assembles, installs and sets up furniture, bulletin boards, picture frames, tables, chairs, etc.
  • Maintains, adjusts and repairs door hardware and locks sets for interior and exterior doors
  • Performs some repairs and maintenance of buildings by patching walls and doors, painting walls, doors and trim and replacing fixtures, replace damaged ceiling tiles and floor tiles
  • Performs plumbing repairs on commodes, urinals, flush valves, faucets, washers, water fountains, packing and drain lines
  • Performs minor electrical repairs or replace as needed light ballasts, light switches, receptacles, fluorescent lamp lights, exit lights, shorts in wiring and replacement of light bulbs
  • Submits requests for proper materials needed for all jobs through the Facilities Manager
  • Assists with setup and breakdown needs for school events
  • Work routinely requires lifting 40 to 50lbs
  • Work routinely requires bending over
  • Work routinely requires walking up and down stairs, climbing ladders
  • Position involves daily exposure to cleaning agents, including bleach
  • Other Responsibilities:
  • Participate in Audubon team activities, including PD and staff meetings
  • Attend professional development conferences and learning groups, as needed
  • Communicate effectively and in a professional manner with school administrators, staff and parents
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment
  • Knowledge of the English language so as to understand operating instructions for cleaning equipment and materials and safety and accident prevention.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Ability to hear the normally spoken word at 25 feet
  • Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs
  • Ability to pick up and carry 65 pounds
  • Ability to operate cleaning machines
  • Ability to stand for prolonged period of time
  • Ability to willingly attend and participate in training sessions
  • Ability to learn and practice acceptable cleaning methods
  • Ability to willingly acquire skills in the operation of cleaning and grass-cutting machines used in the assigned facility and to be a self-starter
  • Interact positively with students, administrators, co-workers, parents and community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • EMPLOYEE SAFETY
      This employee is responsible for the use of safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work-related accidents. The employee is responsible for using safe practices and methods in the operation and supplies related to their job.
      The employee is further responsible for correcting any conditions within the building or grounds that may be hazardous to employees, students, or staff assigned to the building and reporting same to the appropriate administrator.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong belief in the mission and values of Audubon Schools
  • High school diploma required
  • Three or more years of experience in general commercial or institutional maintenance work (maintenance work in a school preferred)
  • Knowledge of cleaning and waxing compounds, floor buffers and custodial equipment
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing and electrical work
  • Skilled in using tools and equipment of the trade
  • Ability to use technology to maintain inventory, create work tickets and update work tickets
  • Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associates degree (preferred)
