About The Role
The Distinguished Data Engineer role at Capital One Software offers a unique opportunity to lead the development and implementation of advanced data engineering solutions. You will be instrumental in driving the adoption of modern data technologies, collaborating across teams to solve complex business challenges, and influencing enterprise-wide data strategies. Your expertise will help shape the architecture and deployment of scalable data platforms, ensuring they meet the evolving needs of our business and customers. This position requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of data architecture, cloud technologies, and machine learning deployment, capable of mentoring others and fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in data engineering
- At least 5 years of experience in data architecture
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Go, and SQL
- Experience with data streaming and processing tools like Kafka, Airflow, Spark, AWS Glue/Kinesis
- Hands-on experience with Databricks or Snowflake cloud data platforms
- Experience deploying machine learning models (preferred)
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate as a trusted advisor and influence enterprise data strategies

- Build awareness, increase knowledge, and drive adoption of modern data technologies, articulating benefits to both consumers and engineering teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address complex business challenges, delivering impactful solutions that enhance customer and associate experiences

- Promote a culture of engineering excellence by encouraging reuse and open-source solutions where appropriate
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels, influencing data strategy and implementation
- Operate as a trusted advisor for specific technology domains, shaping use cases and deployment strategies
- Mentor internal talent and actively participate in recruiting efforts to develop next-generation data engineering skills within the organization
