Job Summary
Motor Controls is looking for a Licensed CDL driver who can drive both a 48' Flatbed and a 53" Dry Van. 90% of the driving will be within the DFW area. Occasional longer drives within Texas. No overnights at this time.
Scope
Our Drivers are required load and unload their truck. This position reports to the Shipping Manager but also works closely with the President of Motor Controls and the V.P. of Manufacturing. The successful candidate is able to discuss their work professionally. A positive attitude with the willingness to assist others where needed is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and Unload Truck
- Tarp, Chain, and Strap down loads as appropriate
- Deliver goods while operating either a tractor-trailer or a 48' flatbed, typically within the DFW area with some longer trips within Texas
- Inspect the truck and/or trailer before and after trip(s) and record any defects
- Record amount and type of cargo being delivered
- Take orders for new deliveries
- Fill up fuel, clean truck and wash windows
- Keep truck(s) in good working order
- Report to dispatcher or manager any incidents encountered on the road
- Monitor road conditions and watch for traffic congestion
- Follow all applicable traffic laws, observing safety rules such as no texting and driving, no phone calls without hands-free device, etc.
- Follow accident procedures if an accident occurs
- Keep a log of activities
- Report serious mechanical issues to the Shipping Manager and/or other appropriate management person(s)
- Plan routes using maps, GPS or other navigation system.
- Deliver goods to customers in a timely fashion
- Other tasks as required by Management
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Must have minimum 2 years' experience tractor/trailer and 1 year driving flatbeds – no exceptions.
Must hold CDL License
Must pass CDL drug screening
Knowledge and Skills
Ability learn and use accounting and project management software. Proficient with Microsoft Office. Basic computer skills necessary. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including needs assessments, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Must have active listening skills, possess good deductive reasoning skills and be very detail oriented. We are looking for a candidate who takes pride in his/her work.
Must be able to work with minimal supervision.

CDL License REQUIRED
Physical Demands
Must be able to sit for long periods of time, lift up to 50 pounds, and load and unload trucks – which may require bending, lifting, squatting, twisting, kneeling, climbing, jumping, and walking among other activity. Critical thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to a problem. Active listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being make, asking questions when appropriate, and not interrupting others. Coordination – adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.
