Product Design Engineer
Hillsboro Industries, a leader in manufacturing and production assemblies, is looking for a motivated individual to join our Engineering Team in Newton, Kansas This position reports directly to our Engineering Manager and will work with other members of our Engineering, Marketing, and Manufacturing Teams. We are looking forward to a candidate who is ready and willing to help take our product development and organization to the next level.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of new products from concept through production
- Create 3D CAD models, detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Analyze designs and develop/test prototypes for fabricated structural assemblies
- Collaborate with marketing and customer teams to translate user needs into product specifications
- Support Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Automation, Design for Assembly (DFA) and Packaging principles in all designs Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to evaluate materials, processes and tooling options
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous product and process improvement
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards applicable to the industry (NHTSA, etc.)
- Manage engineering change orders (ECO), bill of materials (BOM) and product lifecycle documentation (ECN)
- Provide engineering support in other departments as needed
- Develop a knowledge and understanding of our manufacturing processes making recommendations as needed
- Keep management informed by submitting project status reports and timeline updates
- Other duties as directed or as needed
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of one year work experience in mechanical engineering or related field
- Strong grasp of principles in Structural Analysis
- Basic understanding of electrical systems
- Proficient with 3D CAD software and technical documentation
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and team objectives
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Manufacturing experience a plus
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years performing and analyzing FEA Structural analysis
- 3+ years in a mechanical design position or related field
- Experience with product lifecycle management systems
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes Skills
- Problem Solving Attention to Detail Organization Team Building Technical Communication Project Management Analytical Thinking

Pay: $60, $80,000.00 per year
