What They Are Looking For
Our client is looking for an experienced Functional Skills Maths Tutor with a strong commitment to supporting learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Their learners present a range of complex needs including global developmental delay, dyslexia, autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and social communication challenges. Learners progress at a slower pace and require additional support with communication and emotional regulation.
The position is for a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, delivering Entry Level 1–3 and Level 1–2 Maths to small groups of up to 12 high-needs learners. This is not a mainstream teaching environment and requires someone patient, adaptable, and confident in managing diverse needs.
What Our Client Needs
A responsible and professional tutor who can plan, deliver, and differentiate the Functional Skills maths curriculum effectively, including:
- Functional Skills Maths Entry Level 1–2
- Functional Skills Maths Level 1–2
Delivery should be creative, engaging, and aligned with learner goals. A dedicated Quality Assurance Team will support continuous improvement and KPI achievement.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- AET/CERT ED/PGCE or equivalent
- Maths GCSE Grade C/4 or Functional Skills Level 2
- Assessor qualification
- Experience teaching learners with varied abilities and learning differences
Desirable
- SEN qualifications
- Experience working with EHCPs
Key Responsibilities
- As a Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will plan and deliver schemes of work tailored to
- individual needs
- Create innovative lesson plans and practical group activities
- Use resources that effectively support high-needs learners
- Carry out diagnostic assessments and monitor progress
- Provide clear objectives, feedback, and exam preparation
- Maintain accurate records and administrative documentation
- Work with the Quality Assurance team to sustain high delivery standards
- Maintain up-to-date CPD
- Adhere to Safeguarding, Prevent, and GDPR requirements
- Travel to other sites where required
