JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE:  Manufacturing Engineer, Controls (Assembly Equipment)      FLSA STATUS:  Exempt
REPORTS TO:  Manager, Corporate Tool Room
SUMMARY
This is a technical position responsible for the programming of OMRON PLC's and Panasonic HMI's.  Also designing and installing of electrical systems, wiring of panels, sensors, and assembly fixtures for Summit manufacturing plants, located both domestic and internationally.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Under general supervision the Manufacturing Engineer, Controls Engineer is responsible for the following major tasks:
Develop high quality PLC programs and HMI code from Functional and Detailed Design Specifications.
Monitor and analyze opportunities for the development of new or improved tools for process improvement activities.
Identify and lead cost and technical improvements under the departments' continuous improvement program.
Ensures electrical documentation is accurate and available so technical personnel can safely and efficiently troubleshoot.
Perform installations, start-ups, and commissioning as needed for new fixtures.
Integrating of photoelectric sensors, proximity sensors, light curtains, and motor controls, including servo technology.
Knowledge of NFPA 70/79, NEC, and ISO electrical and safety standards.
Interfaces with designers, plant engineering, and maintenance personnel to provide robust electrical systems.
Develops and maintains best automation systems practices and standards.
Knowledge in safety devices, such as ESDV's, SRDV's, and light curtains.
Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must possess a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related science discipline.  3-5 years of progressive experience working with electrical controls, schematics, and basic PLC and HMI programming structure.  Experience with automated control systems in a manufacturing environment is preferred. 
 
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices. Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
A minimum score of  50 on the Wonderlic Select Assessment (Traditional score of 26 on the cognitive portion).
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
This position typically does require up to 25% travel.
