Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other unique needs. Your passion for caregiving will shine as you provide compassionate support in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community environments. You will empower individuals to achieve their personal goals while ensuring their safety and well-being.

What you'll do

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and grooming to promote independence and dignity.
  • Provide patient observation to monitor health status and report any changes to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
  • Implement care plans tailored to individual needs, ensuring adherence to prescribed medication administration and health protocols.
  • Engage clients in meaningful activities that foster social interaction and personal development.
  • Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties and meal preparation.
  • Utilize equipment such as Hoyer lifts for safe patient transfers and heavy lifting when necessary.
  • Support individuals with Alzheimer's or dementia through specialized memory care techniques and compassionate interaction.
  • Uphold confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations while documenting care activities accurately.

Skills

  • Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, autism, or in senior care settings is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in first aid and CPR to ensure immediate response in emergencies.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to perform patient monitoring tasks including vital signs assessment and behavioral observations.
  • Knowledge of caregiving practices including home health, hospice care, and long-term care experience.
  • Familiarity with cooking and meal preparation tailored to dietary needs of clients.
  • Compassionate approach towards caregiving that fosters trust and rapport with residents.
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing training related to direct support practices.
