Summary

The part-time Physical Exercise (P.E.) Instructor will teach physical exercise classes in his/her area of expertise at VISIONS at Selis Manor to be scheduled by the Director. Looking for instructors who can teach in the following areas which can include but are not limited to: Tai Chi, Self Defense, Martial Arts, Dance and/or Fitness classes like Aerobics, Cardio, etc. Other areas of fitness are welcome to apply. The class participants are adults (age range: 18 – 90+) who are blind or visually impaired. The P.E. Instructor should be knowledgeable about health and wellness and have certification and expertise in their area of physical exercise. The instructor is responsible to design and direct PE programs that are tailored to class participants with special attention paid to the special needs of individuals. He/she teaches and demonstrates the use of PE equipment, observes the participant as they exercise, and corrects any improper techniques. The P.E. Instructor reports to and is supervised by the Senior Director of VISIONS at Selis Manor.

Job Duties

● Design and facilitate Physical Exercise classes as assigned

● Teach scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provide adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down.

● Ensure the classes maintain at a minimum five registered participants

● Instruct participants on effective workout methods; explain proper techniques, demonstrate exercises; identifying different muscle groups, and teaching appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles.

● Educate participants on proper and safe exercise form. Execute equipment orientations.

● Monitor participants' progress and adapt programs as needed.

● Educate participants about ways they can adjust their physical activity to meet their fitness goals.

● Prepare appropriate equipment, music, etc for each class.

● Keep attendance and maintain participation records.

● Enforce VISIONS at Selis Manor Participant Policies and Procedures and Arco Management policies outlined in their memo.

● Adhere to and execute VISIONS at Selis Manor's risk management procedures and complete incident reports as required.

● Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Certification Requirements

The Physical Exercise Instructor must be certified in their area of expertise or have a degree in a specialized health field. (Certifying authorities include but are not limited to: the American Council on Exercise, National Academy of Sports Medicine, American College of Sports Medicine, National Sports and Conditioning Association, or the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America)

Maintain up-to-date CPR Certification

● While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. ● The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally must aide or assist participants.

● The employee must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout.

Skill Requirements

Self-motivated, energetic, organized and responsible. A good communicator and attentive to their participants' needs, being willing and able to adjust workout programs at the last minute. They should be adept at managing time wisely and effectively. Experience working with elders and persons with disabilities a plus.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $40.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 5 per week
