POSITION CONCEPT: This position oversees the fundraising/marketing campaigns to secure revenue that meets the business objectives for JA of East Tennessee. Position scope will depend on the level of experience the candidate has.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for fundraising: operating gifts from companies and individuals, grants from private foundations, and marketing initiatives.
- Collaborates with the President of JA of East Tennessee to identify prospective donors with an emphasis on foundations and corporations. Conducts research about prospects and helps to prioritize development opportunities.
- Creates winning fund development strategies related to grant funding, develops corporate proposals for submission, coordinates and maintains grant proposal templates, prepares and stewards prospect portfolios, and ensures timely reports to funders.
- Designs and oversees a stewardship program that effectively engages all constituents – alumni, staff, board, volunteers, and donors – to create an effective resource pipeline, increase retention of funder relationships, increase revenue from existing relationships, and enhance the JA brand.
- Assists with the preparation of the income and expense budget and cash flow projections, including the tracking of revenues, expenses, and budget adjustments.
- Fosters superior relationship building capacity with key partners such as government entities, investors, foundations, corporate entities, volunteers, other non-profit agencies, educational institutions, and other constituents to manage fundraising campaigns through direct solicitations and proposals.
- Develops and/or manages the information systems which track prospects, solicitors, and funding history. Assures that all data remains up to date and correct. Work with the operations coordinator to get invoices generated and pledges/ sponsorships collected in a timely manner.
- Organizes and maintains an annual calendar of grant process steps including, but not limited to, regular grant submission timelines for former donors, key dates and deadlines of grants in the funding pipeline, and steps to follow up on proposals.
- Prepares materials needed for the organization's meetings with current and prospective donors.
- Oversees production & distribution of e-newsletters, annual report & other marketing pieces to contributors, volunteers, and teachers.
- Develops and assists with the execution of an effective marketing/communication plan, including social media strategies, press releases, and special event notifications to donors.
- Provides timely acknowledgments/thank you letters to all donors and ensures they receive regular communication.
- Other projects as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, plus minimum 3+ years of progressive work experience in stewardship, fund development, business administration, customer service, or other closely related area. Experience involving corporate & foundation solicitation desired.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Superior project management skills - attention to detail and proven ability to work independently and within functional and cross-functional groups under strict deadlines on multiple projects.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment managing multiple tasks and accommodating varying schedules of investors and supporters.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and database applications.
- Proven relationship builder with business development and persuasion skills.
- Proven track record in grant development and fundraising initiatives.
- Proven experience in meeting deadlines and exceeding goals.
- Must be energetic and willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fundraising activities ranging from the routine/day-to-day to the highly creative/visible.
- Candidate should possess a strong work ethic and be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends related to resource generation.
- Candidate must have a valid driver's license and vehicle transportation required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
