Data Center Engineer – Mission Critical Infrastructure (Tier III)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced
Data Center Engineer
to lead the operations, uptime, and continuous improvement of a
Tier III mission-critical data center
supporting a large North American enterprise environment. This role owns 24x7 availability, infrastructure reliability, vendor coordination, and operational readiness while partnering closely with IT, facilities, executive leadership, and external stakeholders.
You will oversee electrical, mechanical, life safety, security, and monitoring systems while driving best-practice operations, disaster recovery preparedness, and infrastructure modernization initiatives across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
What You'll Do
- Manage a
24x7 Tier II / Tier III data center
, ensuring SLA compliance and near-zero downtime - Establish and maintain
documented operational processes
aligned with security and industry best practices - Lead
incident response
, root cause analysis, and emergency operations - Oversee scheduled maintenance for
UPS, generators, switchgear, cooling, HVAC, BMS/FMS, and monitoring systems - Read and interpret
single-line diagrams, floor plans, and architectural drawings - Drive
DR/BCP readiness
, identifying risks and mitigation strategies - Coordinate vendors, contractors, utilities, and local government partners
- Support infrastructure upgrades including
power systems, thermal optimization, containment, and modernization efforts - Provide executive-level reporting on operational readiness, capacity, and risk
- Support affiliate data center and infrastructure projects across North America, including on-site assessments and audits
- Participate in
24x7 on-call rotation
and emergency response coverage
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years
supporting Tier II / Tier III data center environments - 7+ years
leading engineering or operations teams - Deep expertise in
480/208V systems, UPS (VRLA & Li-ion), generators, ATS, PDUs, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, chillers, and cooling towers - Strong understanding of
network and telecommunications standards - Experience with
Schneider Electric StruxureWare / EcoStruxure
platforms - Proven experience with
BCP/DR, facility expansion, orchestration, and standardization - Knowledge of
data center physical security systems
(badge, biometric, CCTV) - Ability to produce clear, accurate reporting for technical and executive audiences
- Willingness to travel to affiliate sites across North America
Preferred Certifications
- Electrical certification for high-availability data centers
- Professional Data Center Certification (DCCA or equivalent)
