Consulting Mechanical Engineer

Overview
We are seeking an experienced consulting mechanical engineer to support the ongoing development, refinement, and production of specialized mechanical equipment. This is a part-time, hourly consulting role suited for a senior or mid-career engineer who enjoys practical, hands-on engineering challenges and collaborating closely with manufacturing teams.

You will work directly with our internal production team and external vendors to help evaluate design decisions, resolve engineering questions, and maintain a high standard of mechanical integrity across our product line.

About Our Products

Our equipment is fully mechanical and purpose-built for demanding applications, including:

• Mechanical lifting and support systems (aircraft maintenance crane)
• Towing and transport equipment for disabled aircraft
• Specialized trailers and ground-support equipment

Key Responsibilities

• Provide engineering guidance on material selection, component sizing, and design trade-offs
• Perform or review structural analysis and stress calculations to support design changes and substitutions
• Evaluate component substitutions and alternative suppliers, including capacity and safety implications
• Maintain and update engineering drawings and CAD models (SolidWorks), including revision control and documentation
• Support production and fabrication by answering engineering questions and resolving shop-level issues
• Collaborate with key vendors such as machine shops, fabricators, laser cutters, etc.
• Participate in occasional in-person meetings at our office or vendor locations as needed

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Practical experience with lifting, towing, structural, or heavy mechanical systems
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and safety factors
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and engineering drawing best practices
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing-focused environment, balancing theory with practical constraints
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain engineering decisions clearly

Preferred

• Experience working with steel structures, welded assemblies, and fabricated components
• Familiarity with vendor-facing engineering and production support
• Aerospace experience is a plus
• Based in or near the Los Angeles area, with ability to attend occasional in-person meetings (Monrovia / Pomona / Anaheim)

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $ $100.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8.0 – 15.0 per week
