Job Description Summary

The Supervisor of Materials Planning will lead the Materials Planning team at the Morris Plains CGT manufacturing site. The Supervisor will be a member of the Site Supply Chain Leadership Team and will collaborate with the CGT Supply Chain Head on strategic initiatives and best practices. He or she will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Materials Planning team ensuring uninterrupted supply of materials to Manufacturing and other support departments.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build a strong team and provide the leadership and motivation necessary to retain, develop and attract high talent employees.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the Materials Planning team ensuring uninterrupted supply of materials to Manufacturing and other support departments. 
  • Review MRP purchase requisitions for direct materials prior to supply chain leadership approvals.
  • Monitor and oversee performance of outside suppliers. Collaborate with suppliers to provide material forecasts to ensure a consistent supply of required materials.  Negotiate with suppliers to mitigate the impact of any delays or other supply issues.
  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations for direct materials cost savings or BCM projects and collaborate with Global Procurement and site personnel on related initiatives.
  • Determine and maintain adherence to strategy for purchasing and usage of primary and alternative materials.
  • Create complex reports, inventory overviews, and detailed analyses to support effective strategic decision-making by reviewing, analyzing, and merging data from various ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system data sources.
  • Monitor and maintain Materials Requirements Planning parameters and master data in ERP system to ensure optimized inventory levels and efficient plans are being generated.
  • Manage Latest Outlook monthly submission process to BPA/FRA for Direct Materials and ensure financial spend and inventory targets are met or exceeded.
  • Develop, monitor, and share with leadership metrics and dashboards related to the health of the Direct Materials inventory levels, spend, cost savings, write-offs, and supplier performance, as well as drive continuous improvement strategies.
  • Proactively identify potential risks or issues with materials or supply and escalate as needed.
  • Ensure supply risk management and mitigation plans are in place for Direct Materials in accordance with Global and Site BCM plans.
  • Evaluate material and inventory supplies to support new product introductions, clinical programs, or interdepartmental requests.
  • Ensure supply chain KPIs (on-time delivery, cost, QCRM release, deviation & CAPA closure) are tracked and met.

Essential Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in science, Engineering, Business, Finance or Supply Chain Management preferred
  • Minimum of 5 total years of experience in materials management, inventory management or supply chain
  • Minimum 2.5 years of experience in supply chain (pharmaceuticals).
  • In-depth knowledge of material requirements planning methodologies and logic within an ERP system
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in MS-Excel and comprehensive knowledge of the MS-Office Suite are essential

The salary for this position is expected to range between $81,200 and $150,800/year. The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically. Novartis may change the published salary range based on company and market factors. Your compensation will include a performance-based cash incentive and, depending on the level of the role, eligibility to be considered for annual equity awards.
