The Children's Museum of Wilmington (CMoW) has served the greater Wilmington area for more than 28 years. Located in the downtown Historic District, the Museum features over 15,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor interactive exhibit space. Hours:
● Part-time: hours/week with additional hours available Memorial Day - Labor Day
● Flexibility Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:30pm; afternoon availability required
● Occasional nights and weekends to support programming and special events
Position Summary
The Museum Educator creates and facilitates vibrant, play-based learning experiences for children and families. This position leads STEM, art, and literacy-themed daily programs, weekend activities, and in-house special events that spark curiosity and support early developmental skills. As part of CMoW's shared education model, Museum Educators are trained to deliver a full range of Museum programming. While this role primarily focuses on daily in-house programs and events, the Museum Educator may also support field trips, outreach, camps, and other initiatives as needed. Working collaboratively across departments, this position helps ensure that every family's visit is welcoming, enriching, and grounded in hands-on learning.
Duties and Responsibilities
Visitor Experience & Learning Environment
● Create a warm, welcoming environment that encourages playful exploration and supports positive learning experiences for children and families.
● Serve as a visible and friendly Museum ambassador, offering excellent customer service and guidance to guests of all ages.
Program Facilitation & Daily Engagement
● Plan, prepare, and facilitate STEM, Art, and Literacy based Daily Programs that support early childhood development and align with CMoW's Values.
● Engage children and caregivers in hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities that nurture curiosity, creativity, and confidence.
● Maintain accurate program attendances logs and contribute to program evaluation.
Program Operations
● Prepare materials, maintain supply inventories, and ensure program areas are clean, safe, organized, and ready for guest use.
● Plan and execute 2–4 in-house special events annually, including preparation, facilitation, and post-event wrap-up.
● Collaborate with fellow educators to support all Museum programs, providing cross-coverage and flexibility within the shared education model.
Shared Education Model
● Assist with field trips, outreach, camps, and community programs as needed.
● Participate actively in Education Team meetings, contributing ideas, input, and collaborative problem-solving.
● Support departmental initiatives, program development, and long-term planning as assigned.
Professional Responsibilities
● Adhere to Museum policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
● Support a positive, team-oriented workplace and model professionalism at all times.
● Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a high-quality Museum experience.

Preferred Qualifications
● Demonstrated ability to engage with young children and families in a hands-on, play-based learning environment.
● Ability and passion for creating positive, playful, and inclusive learning experiences for visitors and colleagues.
● Creative, collaborative, and adaptable, with the ability to support colleagues across program areas.
● A curious, growth-oriented mindset being eager to learn, ask questions, and incorporate feedback.
● 1-2 years of experience in education, informal learning, or museum programming.
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a welcoming professional presence.
● Experience and demonstrated facility with software such as Canva, Microsoft, and Google Suite (or willing to learn quickly).
● Bachelor's Degree or ongoing coursework in Education, Early Childhood Development, or related field preferred.
● Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Pay Range: $18 - $22
