Pharmacy Technician

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Technician supports the Pharmacist in all daily pharmacy operations, ensuring accurate prescription processing, exceptional customer service, and smooth workflow in a small, neighborhood-focused environment. This role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and comfort working closely with both customers and a small team.

Key ResponsibilitiesPrescription Processing & Dispensing

• Receive, enter, and update prescriptions in the pharmacy system.
• Print labels and prepare medications for pharmacist verification.
• Count, measure, package, and label medications under pharmacist supervision.
• Assist the pharmacist with refill requests, prior authorizations, and prescription transfers.
• Maintain accuracy and compliance with New York State pharmacy regulations.

Customer Service & Front-of-Store Support

• Greet customers, answer phone calls, and handle general inquiries.
• Assist customers with OTC (over-the-counter) product selection and recommendations within permitted scope.
• Process sales transactions, insurance claims, and co-pays.
• Build friendly, long-term relationships with community customers.

Inventory & Stock Management

• Receive, unpack, and verify medication and supply orders.
• Restock shelves, rotate inventory, and monitor expiration dates.
• Communicate shortages or out-of-stock items to the pharmacist/owner.
• Maintain a clean, organized workspace typical of a small community shop.

Administrative Duties

• Maintain patient records with confidentiality (HIPAA compliance).
• Manage insurance rejections and troubleshoot billing issues.
• Assist the pharmacist in maintaining logs, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Help with small-shop tasks (e.g., tidying, organizing front shelves).

Work Environment

• Family-run, community-focused NYC pharmacy.
• Close teamwork with the pharmacist/owner.
• Frequent interaction with long-term neighborhood customers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
