Position Summary
The Behavioral Health Unit Clinical Coordinator is a Registered Nurse that helps to lead optimization of care in the behavioral health unit (BHU) Unit. The BHU Clinical Coordinator must be rooted in evidenced based practices and espouse the culture of leading the organization to zero harm & high reliability care. Serving as a role model and team player. Must be willing and able to work clinical areas as needed.
Essential Functions
- Performs and delegates chart audits, keeps record of chart review and loop closures to correct
deficiencies in documentation or care
Assists in referral/admission process including EDW and OPC obtainment
Identifies Performance Improvement (PI) opportunities based on data variances or trends
Responsible for working with staff to initiate of PI opportunities
Evaluates effectiveness of PI projects and works with staff and leadership to hardwire changes
Provides staff feedback on care variances and monitors staff response for appropriate action based on
expectations
QAPI Leader for BHU Unit
Maintains and monitors PI projects for hardwiring of care
Research best practices from recognized societies and institute in department, including revision and
review of unit policies to current practice
Monitors care that deviates from evidence and bring forward to QAPI
Evaluates BHU for Joint Commission perpetual readiness
Evaluates daily checkoffs by staff for JC readiness
Identifies any variances to compliance/safety and report to Director immediately
Takes action immediately for any threat to patient safety
Understands and promotes and encourages the use of the chain of command for staff
Participates in call coverage as assigned by director
Ensures debriefing of events as indicated in department; ensures event reports are entered for all
necessary events
- Participates in committees as requested including but not limited to Code Committee, Patient
Experience, Clinical Harm Prevention, and Nurse Leadership Committee.
Leads/Plans BHU learning events such as yearly skills fair
Assists in passing along education to staff on policy/procedure changes and updates in evidence-based
practice.
- Participates in the interview process and orientation of new hires. Assists Director with payroll,
scheduling, and attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned including but not limited to preauthorization's for admissions
Maintains composure during stressful situations.
Follows and adheres to TRMC vaccine policy(s) mandated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services.
Work Experience
- Four years of inpatient nursing experience preferred.
Education
Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice in the State of Texas required.
BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire date required.
