The New Mexico State Fire Marshals Office consists of four Bureaus, Fire Service Support, Code Enforcement, Fire Investigations, and the Firefighters Training Academy. The Academy is dedicated to meeting the needs of a complex and dynamic fire service by providing programs of the highest quality. The New Mexico Firefighters Training Academy's objectives and goals are:
(1) to provide training programs designed to develop the basic and advanced skills necessary for students to be more effective members of the fire service
(2) to provide the best instruction and training possible in all areas of the fire service
(3) to serve the public at large by providing education services, training, and counseling
(4) to provide a means allowing firefighters to demonstrate their ability to meet professional qualification standards.

How does it get done?
Collects Air Samples as per NFPA Standard N), and sends for analysis for two compressors that supply breathing air for Firefighter use. Is the first person contacted after working hours if Fire Alarm should signal for any reason. The Maintenance Supervisor oversees all facility operations and grounds management for the Fire Academy, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment across 121 acres of property¿27 of which are developed with buildings, roadways, and burn pads. The position provides direct supervision to two Plant System Operator AO-O employees and one Janitor/Cleaner Advanced, managing daily assignments, performance evaluations, and training schedules.This role includes developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance, ponds, fueling areas, and other critical systems. The supervisor coordinates closely with contractors on facility projects and collaborates with local government officials on matters impacting the Academy.Administrative duties include scheduling and tracking vehicle usage, maintaining accurate documentation, and submitting monthly mileage and expense reports to Santa Fe. The supervisor also ensures compliance with state and federal environmental standards, working with two divisions of the New Mexico EPA¿Ground Water and Petroleum

Minimum Qualification
A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of heavy supervisory or limited professional level experience operating within strict parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience. A hiring agency may designate that a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. A pre-employment background investigation is required and conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
The Maintenance Supervisor position involves a mix of administrative, supervisory, and hands-on field work across the 121-acre Fire Academy property. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions, requiring frequent movement and physical activity. The position demands regular walking, standing, climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and grasping¿occurring approximately 34% to 66% of the workday. Visual acuity, hearing, and tactile sense are also required for up to two-thirds of the workday to ensure safety, effective supervision, and accurate completion of maintenance and inspection tasks. The position occasionally requires lifting materials from floor to waist, waist to shoulder, and overhead, as well as carrying items up to 20 feet. Frequent operation of state vehicles and fire apparatus is required to access different areas. Use of equipment such as welders, forklifts, drill press, fuel pumps, and a wide variety of other tools.
