REPORTING

The Glass Cutting Lead Hand reports directly to the Production Supervisor at Woodbridge Glass Distribution. The Lead Hand is responsible for overseeing the glass cutting operations, ensuring production targets are met safely, accurately, and on time, while supporting and guiding team members as needed. The working hours are Monday – Friday 6:00am-2:30pm.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead the glass cutting operations and ensure daily production schedules are met.
  • Cut and prepare glass accurately according to drawings, templates, and specifications.
  • Oversee and assist in loading and unloading glass sheets from the free-fall rack onto the cutting table.
  • Perform both automated and manual glass cutting, including pattern and specialty cuts.
  • Verify that all cut glass is correctly labeled and transferred to carts for subsequent processing.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company standards and procedures.
  • Provide direction, training, and support to glass cutting team members.
  • Monitor quality and accuracy of cuts; perform checks and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cutting area and ensure proper equipment upkeep.
  • Collaborate with the Production Supervisor to identify process improvements and enhance efficiency.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in glass cutting within a plant or manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring team members is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of both manual and automated glass cutting processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, labels, and diagrams.
  • Proficient with glass-cutting software (e.g., A&W) and computer-based systems.
  • Skilled in cutting 10mm and 12mm glass manually, including pattern glass.
  • Competent in using manual cutting tools and equipment.
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds and work safely with minimal supervision.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of the English language (spoken and written).
