Overview:

Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Construction Engineer to be based in Chattanooga, TN. This challenging position will focus on day to day construction activities related to the Chickamauga Dam Project; a new 110-foot by 600-foot lock located downstream of Chickamauga Dam. This project is being performed by Shimmick for the US Army Corps of Engineers (Client) and as such any applicants must be able to pass security and background checks.

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Performs quantity surveys and take offs for tracking and reporting.
  • Assist Project Manager in preparation of change proposals to the client.
  • Under general supervision, performs routine duties.
  • Displays knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering and construction techniques, procedures and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications.
  • Displays applications of sound professional judgment on details of work.
  • Independently performs site walks and inspections of installed commodities to assure conformance with specifications and design.
  • May provide technical direction to drafters, technicians, and surveyors.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on Heavy Civil Construction projects.
  • Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and consistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing deadlines and work well under pressure for multiple team leaders.
  • Work independently and effectively to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of basic scheduling practices.
  • Understanding of basic cost reporting procedures.

The salary range for this position is between $85,000 - $95,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
