Crane Operator

Brief Summary:

The Crane / Forklift Operator operates the overhead electric traveling crane to lift/move heavy equipment and material.

Responsibilities:

• Operate crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
• Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
• May attach load to hook or another crane accessory prior to operating crane
• Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
• Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes.
• Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions.
• Responsible for completing any assignments given by Supervisor, even those assignments not specifically listed in this job description.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma, OR Equivalency Certificate, (GED, etc.)
• One to three months equivalent experience in related field OR, Proof of training in an area related to the job assignment
• Reasonable knowledge in hand-held measuring devices, micrometers, measuring tapes, go/no-go gauges, grinding, operation of thickness gauges and depth gauges
• Moderate to Advanced PC Skills in Microsoft Applications, i.e., MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint
• Able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to follow job and safety requirements.

Physical Requirements:

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, hands to feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.
• The employee frequently is required to climb, balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit.
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
