Position Overview
The Yard Foreman assumes a leadership role in a salvage yard, overseeing and coordinating activities to support the crush operator and ensure efficient yard operations. The Yard Foreman leads yard maintenance efforts, assists the crush operator by removing cores or commodities from vehicles before crushing, actively drives continuous improvement, and upholds a commitment to safety. Responsible for supervising the operation of yard vehicles and heavy equipment, the Yard Foreman fosters a culture of teamwork, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
Yard Maintenance
Ensure that the yard associates are performing various tasks such as sweeping, shoveling, and cleaning up debris in the yard.
- Assist yard associates in cleaning up and appropriately sorting car parts and debris resulting from vehicle crushing or movement within the yard.
- Lead the operation of yard vehicles and heavy equipment, providing guidance to support team members.
2. Crush Assistance
- Lead and actively participate in assisting the crush operator in removing additional cores or commodities from vehicles before crushing.
3. Continuous Improvement
- Drive initiatives to enhance efficiency and safety in yard processes and procedures.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging team members to contribute ideas and feedback.
4. Safety
- Ensure that yard associates follow all safety protocols and procedures, remaining alert and aware of surroundings to ensure a safe working environment on the ground.
- Provide guidance and training to team members on safety best practices.
5. Lead & Train
- Serve as a lead worker; trains, mentors, and coordinates the day-to-day activities and oversees the work of other yard associates.
- May participate in the hiring process and supply input into the performance evaluation process.
- Guides the resolution of yard associate problems.
- Trains and assists new team members in adopting and maintaining Aesop procedures.
- Assist in disseminating and monitoring company and departmental policies and procedures.
6. Perform Other Duties as Assigned
Requirements:
Qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Leadership or management experience (1) year minimum
- Experience working in the auto salvage industry or auto mechanic Foreman background
- Forklift Certificate preferred.
- Automotive experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Must be able to work effectively alone or with others in a team environment.
- Must be able to work collaboratively across functions. Share expertise with others.
- Must be a self-starter with the demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules related to essential functions described above.
- Must demonstrate attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

- Must be able to ambulate throughout the facility and salvage yard for most of the workday.
- Must be able to continuously work outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.).
- Work in an area equipped with forklifts, chain hoists, and other tools as needed.
- Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to operate basic hand and power tools safely.
- Ability to lift, move, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
- Expected work hours are based on role and location.
- Ability to work occasional overtime as needed as determined by the employee's supervisor.
