Overview:

MasTec Civil is hiring for a Junior Estimator

Typically, this position is associated with your first professional job out of college. You will focus on different tasks assigned by the estimating team to collaborate with the bidding process or change orders on existing contracts.

This candidate must be a self-motivated person, with excellent communications skills, passionate about the work and profession, act with integrity, and like to work in a competitive environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Get familiar with the company clients.
  • Study and understand standard specifications, plans, design standards, basis of estimate, historical cost, type of contracts, request for information, request for proposal, technical special provision, addendums, permits, and other documents.
  • Perform accurate, and within the time frame quantity takeoffs.
  • Assists to pre-bid meeting and bid submittals.
  • Coordinate and invite suppliers and subcontractors to quote different scope of work.
  • Analyzes suppliers and subcontractor pricing input when required.
  • Obtains clarifications on plans and specifications from owner or engineer of records.
  • Provides information to the estimating team.
  • Continues communication with field personnel (project engineer, superintendent, foreman, fleet manager, etc.) to track and adjust as necessary unit costs.
  • Continues reading on commodity trade prices.
  • Keeps looking construction technologies and techniques.
  • Keeps looking to expand knowledge of construction, individual skills, and performance.
  • Develops unit cost analysis.
  • Start identifying design errors, problems, and solutions.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or Construction Management degree.
  • At least one internship with a Heavy Civil Contractor in the USA preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Possess good organization skills and strong verbal and written communication skills. Learn quickly and develop new skills.

  • Must be proficient using a personal computer, and Microsoft Software (Excel, Word, Power point, Outlook, Bluebeam).
