Job Summary
:
The Category Buyer performs all procurement related activities for raw materials that enables the manufacturing schedule in a cost-effective manner for defined material categories. They will consider unit price, order quantities, inventory levels, freight costs, and various risk factors, among other details to determine the most appropriate purchasing and material distribution. Collaborate with all departments, multiple manufacturing facilities, and vendors to see material delivery through to completion. He/she will play a critical role in analyzing procurement and usage data, building strong supplier relationships, & sourcing decisions.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
- Manage the supply of goods within the chosen purchasing categories
- Strategically determine and maintain the most economical purchasing decisions that balance costs and risk to operations.
- Make data driven purchasing decisions via analyzing items such as inventory levels, lead times, production schedules, and historical data across multiple production facilities
- Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to ensure we receive the highest levels of service, reliability, and quality.
- Systematically create POs, then coordinate with the supplier and internal partners to see the PO through to on-time delivery
- Re-Source materials & re-negotiate as needed to maintain material availability under budgeted cost targets
- Monitor category performances and adjust strategies as needed
- Lead and take ownership of resolving material shortages that put operations at risk
- Communicate with internal partners all significant risks to production schedules, and work collaboratively to most appropriately react to each escalation
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven experience in procurement, category management, or a similar role
- Strong proficiency in data analysis and decision making
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that are professional and with a sense of urgency
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills and resourcefulness
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
- Proven record of process improvement and execution
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple tasks without compromising quality of work or deadlines
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, & particularly Excel
Skills/ Credentials:
- Bachelor's degree preferred with a degree in Supply Chain Management, Business or Operations Management
- 2+ years' experience in purchasing/inventory analysis position
