Employment Type: Full-time / Permanent
Salary: $75,000-$85,000
Mon – Fri (08:00 – 17:00) – 40 hours per week
- Overtime - 1.5 x Hourly Rate: More than 40 hours worked in a workweek
- $500pcm car allowance and fuel 0.59 pm ($6000 PA)
- On Call - $10/day Monday to Friday and $25/day for Saturday, Sunday
About the Role
We are recruiting on behalf of a leading telecommunications services provider for an experienced L2 Field Engineer. In this role, you will lead onsite installation, commissioning, maintenance, and fault-resolution activities across complex network environments. You will provide technical leadership, support junior engineers, and ensure high-quality service delivery in line with industry standards and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Field Support & Maintenance
- Provide first-line and second-line maintenance support across customer sites.
- Respond to interventions promptly to meet required SLAs.
- Participate in out-of-hours on-call rota when required.
- Deliver regular updates on progress to operational teams and project stakeholders.
Installation & Commissioning
- Perform installation, commissioning, and testing activities in both project and maintenance environments.
- Install racks, metalwork, cable trays, and associated infrastructure.
- Conduct fibre and copper cabling, including pulling, dressing, labelling, terminating, and securing.
- Perform continuity checks and diagnostic testing for cable and fibre runs.
- Complete AC/DC connectivity work (excluding power-up).
Technical Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Take the lead on complex fault-finding and troubleshooting tasks based on written or verbal instructions from operations centres.
- Provide guidance, leadership, and coaching to junior engineers.
- Maintain and implement quality installation standards.
- Manage RAMS documentation and ensure safety and compliance standards are met.
- Conduct field quality audits and coordinate rectification or improvement activities.
- Act as lead engineer on assigned projects and serve as the escalation point for technical issues.
- Produce accurate, high-quality technical and project documentation.
Operational & Cross-Functional Duties
- Support project managers with basic project management tasks when required.
- Conduct onsite HSE and site-visit inspections when needed.
- Manage assigned incidents end-to-end until resolution.
- Maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, partners, and customers.
About You
Essential Experience & Skills
- Strong background in telecoms infrastructure build, installation, and commissioning.
- Advanced experience in network commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on expertise in:
- Optical transmission systems (e.g., PDH, SDH, DWDM)
- Fibre and structured cabling
- IP WAN/LAN networking, VoIP
- High-speed testing (10/100/1000 Mbps, 10G, 40G, 100G)
- AC/DC power systems and monitoring environments
- Experience with multiple major telecom network equipment vendors (names withheld for client confidentiality).
- Excellent customer-facing communication and reporting skills.
- Strong ability to work under pressure and guide others.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 or equivalent.
- Ability to manage workload independently and meet all SLAs.
- Full, valid driving licence.

- Fast-paced and reactive role with varied site locations.
- Field-based with home working where appropriate.
