MacKay Contracting Ltd. is a progressive, well-established Heavy Civil Construction and Mining Services company operating across Western Canada. For over 40 years, we've been tackling the projects others shy away from — and doing them safely, efficiently, and with pride.

We're currently looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator – Grader to join our team. This role is critical to the success of our projects and requires precision, awareness, and a strong commitment to safety.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Operate graders and other heavy equipment safely and accurately to meet project specifications
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment to operate equipment including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Graders, and Haul Trucks
  • Maintain constant awareness in busy, fast-paced work environments and identify potential hazards before they become problems
  • Interpret verbal and non-verbal communication, including hand signals, from operators, ground personnel, and labourers
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections, complete logbooks, and perform minor maintenance, adjustments, lubrication, and housekeeping within your skillset
  • Complete daily track cleaning at the end of each shift
  • Identify hazards by completing field-level hazard assessments (FLHAs) and participating in pre-job hazard analysis
  • Ensure daily submission of FLHAs and timecards
  • Follow all MacKay safety policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Be flexible with hours and willing to support project needs
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

What You Bring

  • Experience operating a Grader in civil construction or equivalent environments
  • Knowledge of construction layout and staking
  • Experience with 3D machine control is an asset
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to follow instructions clearly and safely
  • A valid, clean Driver's Abstract
  • Valid government-issued photo ID

What's In It for You

This role is based out of Sparwood, B.C., working a 7 x 7 shift rotation. Shifts typically run 12 hours, with overtime after 8 hours.

At MacKay, you'll enjoy:

  • Competitive pay and overtime opportunities
  • A company that walks the talk on safety
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Opportunities to grow your skills and advance
  • A crew that values your experience and the work you do

Why MacKay?

Because we don't just move dirt — we build careers. You'll be part of a team that values safety, accountability, and doing things right the first time. If you take pride in your work, respect the machine, and understand that a clean grade matters, you'll fit right in.
