The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of NGTL/CGL Compression Operations Engineering in Canada Gas, the Operations Engineer will be assigned a geographic area and support the operation and reliability of our compressor station facility assets within their geo-area and broader system wide. You will be joining a high performing multidisciplinary team and liase with experienced engineers, field specialists and commercial operations.

*Role is field based and can be located at any of these locations - Slave Lake, Cranbrook, or Lac La Biche.

*Domestic relocation will be provided, if necessary*

What you'll do

  • Conduct data gathering and engineering analysis for issue resolution, facility health assessments, root cause analysis and risk

  • Provide field operations troubleshooting support to new and ongoing issues. This will include site visits to trouble shoot with senior reliability specialists and engineers.

  • Evaluate/Trend operational and engineering data to identify bad actors, system issues and opportunities to improve equipment reliability maintenance.

  • Facilitate operational decision-making risk assessments for compression facilities.

  • Lead treatment plan actions to support asset and system risk reduction

  • Conduct root cause analysis discussions for equipment failures and support development of corrective actions

  • Provide operational support for inflight maintaining capital projects to ensure risks and solutions put forth in yearly programs are adequately mitigated

  • MOCs – complete scope development, Internal design and implementation

  • Create Engineering Justifications to provide technical recommendation on project needs and give context on recommended solution and alternatives

  • Complete Fit for service/engineering assessments

  • Support TOPs - Development and maintenance

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

  • Registered, or eligible to register, with APEGA as an

    Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.) or Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in good standing

  • 1 - 5 years of progressive relevant engineering experience

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate change and help others adapt to a continuously changing work environment

  • Proven ability to drive short-term and long-term technical solutions to complex and ambiguous problems

  • Experienced with engineering principles, codes, and standards to identify issue and recommend improvements

  • Ability to recognize and adapt to changing business priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Broad engineering expertise

  • Troubleshooting skills, including familiarity with all aspects of facility operation

  • Failure investigation and root cause determination and interpretation of damage mechanisms

  • Familiarity with norms and standards related to equipment reliability, safety, and risk management

  • Time management skills and ability to work independently, including at field locations

  • Previous maintenance process and system development experience

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review

  • Stay away from home base overnight which will include living in and maintaining company camps or housing (~30% of the time)
