At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Network Engineer at our site in Catterick, near Richmond, North Yorkshire.
The Role
This is an opportunity for engineers who thrive on technical detail, love problem‑solving, and want to make a real impact on national defence.
As a Senior Network Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of delivering secure, deployable communications platforms for the UK Armed Forces. This is not your typical IT support role – you’ll work on systems that operate in mobile, austere, and contested environments, making a real impact on national defence. It’s a chance to combine advanced technical expertise with hands‑on engineering, while shaping the future of mission‑critical networks.
Provide Level 3/4 system support, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and patching to maintain operational readiness.
Manage service lifecycle across deployments, ensuring adherence to ITIL principles and cyber security standards.
Support the integration of new services into the system using virtualisation and automation, validating interoperability and security.
Maintain and enforce configuration baselines, change control, and accurate documentation for all systems and services.
Assist with physical assembly of system nodes and technical investigation/disassembly of faulty equipment.
Support rapid deployment and configuration of system nodes for operational deployment.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based onsite at Catterick. Full‑time onsite, Monday–Friday, with a 1‑in‑4 on‑call rota for out‑of‑hours support.
Essential Experience
Networking: LAN/WAN, SD‑WAN, VPN, firewalls.
Windows & Intel (Wintel): Server administration, patching, troubleshooting.
Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, vCloud, NSX; Hyper‑V; KVM.
Qualifications
HNC/HND or degree in engineering or demonstrable experience in senior network support engineer positions with a SD‑WAN focus.
Security Clearance The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
