About
We're a small, fast-moving digital marketing team that publishes in-depth content for various clients across North America, on topics like investing, small business, fitness, and personal finance. We run several content-heavy websites and are looking for a detail-oriented Web Marketing Assistant to help us scale our publishing, keep our content fresh, and support day-to-day website tasks.
If you're comfortable inside WordPress, enjoy SEO, and don't mind rolling up your sleeves with both creative and repetitive marketing tasks, you'll fit right in.
We actively encourage smart use of AI tools to speed up research, outlines, and drafts – as long as the final work feels human, is well-edited, and wouldn't be flagged as generic "100% AI."
Role Overview
As our Web Marketing Assistant, you'll support content production, on-page SEO, and light technical tasks. Your day could include drafting SEO-optimized blog posts, updating older articles, fixing small WordPress issues (no heavy backend coding), creating or editing basic images, and helping with keyword research and link building.
This is a great role for someone who already understands the basics of SEO and WordPress and wants more hands-on experience in a real publishing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Content & SEO
- Draft and format SEO-optimized blog posts that follow our content briefs and style guidelines.
- Refresh and improve existing articles (headlines, structure, internal links, meta tags, readability, updated stats, etc.).
- Use tools like Ahrefs (or similar) to:
- Identify keyword opportunities
- Optimize titles, H2s, and on-page content
- Monitor rankings and suggest improvements
- Add internal links between relevant articles to improve site structure and engagement.
- Use AI tools (where appropriate) to help with research, first drafts, and ideation—then rewrite, refine, and fact-check so the final article reads naturally and passes human/AI detection checks.
WordPress & Site Maintenance
- Publish and format blog posts in WordPress (blocks, images, tables, basic HTML when needed).
- Troubleshoot and fix simple WordPress issues (broken links, layout bugs, plugin quirks that don't require deep coding).
- Update categories, tags, redirects, menus, and other basic site elements.
Basic Design & Media
- Create simple blog and social images using tools like Canva, Figma, or similar.
- Resize, compress, and update existing images to improve page speed and consistency.
Basic Link Building & Promotion
- Submit sites to relevant business directories and citation platforms.
- Set up and optimize social profiles to support branding and link building.
- Help with light outreach tasks as needed (e.g., contacting site owners for basic link corrections or citation opportunities).
Requirements
- 1–3+ years of experience in digital marketing, SEO, content, or a similar web role.
- Comfortable working in WordPress (Gutenberg blocks; basic HTML is a plus).
- Strong written English and ability to adapt to a brand voice and editorial guidelines.
- Working knowledge of SEO fundamentals (on-page optimization, keyword intent, search snippets, etc.).
- Experience using at least one SEO tool (Ahrefs preferred; SEMrush, Moz, etc. also fine).
- Basic image editing skills (Canva, Figma, Photoshop, or equivalent).
- Comfortable using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, etc.) to speed up work, but willing to:
- Edit heavily
- Add original insights and examples
- Fact-check and correct any hallucinations
- Ensure the final piece feels human and not like a copy-paste AI output
- Detail-oriented and organized: you can handle checklists, repeatable processes, and larger content batches without dropping things.
- Reliable, self-directed, and comfortable working remotely with mostly async communication.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience optimizing content in niches like finance, investing, insurance, or small business.
- Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and basic reporting.
- Experience creating or updating content briefs.
- Basic knowledge of technical SEO (page speed, schema, redirects) – not required, but a plus.
What We Offer
- Flexible part-time schedule (ideal if you freelance or have other projects).
- Long-term, ongoing work for the right person.
- Clear processes, templates, and support – but lots of autonomy in your day-to-day.
- Exposure to real SEO strategy across multiple sites and verticals.
