Summary

Schedule:

  • Overnight: Monday and Wednesday 9pm-8am (or 10am)
  • Evening: Tuesday 5pm-10pm
  • Weekend: Saturday 10am-5pm.

Reports To: Program Supervisor / Agency Coordinator

Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and safety-focused Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide one-on-one support to a 30-year-old verbal female with autism in Wayne, NJ. The individual experiences low vision and neurological balance impairments, resulting in increased fall risk—primarily while navigating the community. This position involves daily living support, community engagement, and fall prevention, with a focus on promoting independence in a safe and respectful manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Safety & Fall Prevention
  • Provide close supervision and hands-on assistance when walking in community settings (e.g., sidewalks, curbs, uneven terrain, painted lines, stairs).
  • Identify and help her navigate potential fall hazards in public environments.
  • Support use of prescribed eyeglasses and give clear verbal cues to address depth perception challenges.
  • Daily Living & Personal Care
  • Provide full assistance with dressing, especially putting on socks.
  • Support basic hygiene tasks and encourage independence where appropriate.
  • Offer prompts or physical assistance as needed while maintaining dignity and privacy.
  • Social and Community Engagement
  • Facilitate meaningful activities in the community while ensuring safety and accessibility.
  • Encourage communication and participation in social or recreational settings.
  • Health & Wellness Monitoring
  • Be attentive to changes in health, mood, or mobility and report concerns promptly.
  • Follow any relevant protocols related to her support plan or safety needs.
  • Documentation & Communication
  • Maintain accurate records of daily activities, support provided, and any incidents or observations.
  • Communicate effectively with the agency and team regarding updates or concerns.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience supporting individuals with autism, visual impairments, or mobility challenges preferred.
  • Physically able to assist with walking support and safe community navigation.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if community outings are part of the role).
  • CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain upon hire.
  • Patient, proactive, and comfortable working independently.

Work Schedule:

  • Available Shifts:
  • Morning: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Mon, Wed, Friday, Sun)
  • Afternoon: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM (Tue, Thu, Sat)
  • Availability Required: 4 days per week (days flexible)

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $ $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5 – 35 per week
