We're a brand new Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) center in the team recruiting stages and are in the city of Pasadena. At Little Stars Pediatric Center, we will be providing an exciting, clean, and goal-oriented work environment. Overview:
The Driver at Little Stars Pediatric Center is responsible for providing safe, timely, and dependable transportation for minors enrolled at the center to and from the facility, medical appointments, and other approved locations. This role requires strict compliance with all applicable state and federal transportation regulations, as well as adherence to center policies and safety protocols, to ensure the health, comfort, and well-being of medically fragile children. The Driver collaborates closely with nursing staff, caregivers, and families to support continuity of care while consistently demonstrating a professional, compassionate, and child-centered approach.
Qualifications:
· At least 3 or more years of experience in non-emergency medical transportation.
· A clean driving record.
· A background check.
· No accidents in the past 3 or more years.
· A valid CPR license and are trained in first aid.
· Clean drug screening.
· Completion of a Driver Safety Course per Texas rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
· Safely transport minors enrolled at Little Stars Pediatric Center to and from the facility, medical appointments, and other approved locations in accordance with assigned schedules.
· Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local transportation laws and regulations, including child passenger safety requirements.
· Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure vehicles are clean, properly maintained, fueled, and safe for transport.
· Secure children appropriately using required car seats, wheelchair restraints, seat belts, and other safety equipment based on each child's needs.
· Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and required documentation such as the daily vehicle checkout sheet are in compliance with center policies.
· Communicate promptly and professionally with nursing staff, administrators, and families regarding schedules, delays, or concerns.
· Follow established procedures for student pick-up, drop-off, and hand-off to authorized individuals only.
· Support continuity of care by coordinating with nursing staff regarding each child's transportation-related needs or accommodations.
· Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA and center policies.
· Ensure a calm, respectful, and child-centered environment during transport.
· Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or medical situations during transport in accordance with center protocols and training.
· Participate in required trainings, including safety, CPR/First Aid (if applicable), and center-specific policies.
· Report vehicle concerns, incidents, or safety issues immediately to administration.
· Perform related duties as assigned to support the safe operation of the center.Duties may be assigned based on the specific needs of the patients enrolled in the facility.
Skills:
· Knowledge of and compliance with Texas Administrative Code, HHSC, and federal transportation requirements
· Safe driving practices and child passenger safety and securement
· Ability to operate or be trained on wheelchair lifts, ramps, and restraint systems
· Attention to detail for proper restraints, authorized hand-offs, and documentation
· Ability to follow emergency, incident, and safety protocols
· Clear, professional communication with staff and families
· Compassionate, child-centered approach with medically fragile children
· Reliable time management and punctuality
· Understanding of HIPAA and confidentiality requirements
· Physical ability to assist with safe entry, exit, and securement
· Willingness to complete required training and follow center policies
