Detention Guard

Location: Mackenzie Detachment
Shift Times: Will be on a as needed basis - Days, Evenings, and Overnights
Pay Rate: Starting at $22/hr

Position Summary

Commissionaires BC is seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team as a Casual Detention Guard at the Mackenzie RCMP detachment. Under the guidance of the RCMP Members responsible for Cell Block Operations, you will be entrusted with the safety and well-being of persons in custody, along with other key duties.

Important: Applicants must reside within a 60-minute drive of the detachment.

• Surveillance:  Regularly observe and check prisoners, including monitoring via CCTV. 
• Assistance:  Aid RCMP members as required and manage meal organization. 
• Record Keeping:  Maintain a detailed prisoner activity logbook. 
• Cell Maintenance:  Ensure cleanliness of cells and conduct searches before and after occupation, reporting any damage. 
• Security:  Maintain cellblock security, ensuring cell doors are always locked and personal effects are secured. 
• Fire Safety:  Monitor and adhere to fire safety protocols. 
• Medical and Laundry:  Handle and dispense approved medications and laundry items under direction of RCMP members.
• Miscellaneous:  Perform additional duties as required by the detachment. 

• Age Requirement: Must be 19 years or older.
• Certification: Valid Basic First Aid certificate or willingness to complete prior to hiring.
• Clearance: Ability to obtain RCMP Reliability Clearance (6+ months process).
• Language: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Vision: Meet RCMP-V4 visual standards (eyeglasses permitted).
• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 20 kg, bend, and climb stairs.
• Skills: Ability to remain calm under stress, work independently, and be discreet.
