The Material Control Manager is responsible for overseeing material management on construction projects, ensuring accurate inventory control, proper storage, and efficient distribution of materials to support project schedules and quality standards. This role is critical for maintaining compliance with safety, quality, and contractual requirements while optimizing material flow.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Planning & Coordination
- Develop and implement material control plans aligned with project schedules.
- Coordinate with logistics and construction teams to ensure timely availability of materials.
Receiving & Inspection
- Supervise receipt of materials, verify conformity to specifications.
- Manage documentation such as Material Receiving Reports (MRR) and OS&D (Over, Short & Damaged) reports.
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate records of material quantities, storage locations, and traceability.
- Conduct regular cycle counts and audits to ensure inventory accuracy.
Storage & Preservation
- Establish and maintain laydown areas and storage facilities in compliance with safety and preservation requirements.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and material protection measures.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain all records related to material handling, including certificates and registers.
- Ensure adherence to company quality management systems and client requirements.
Coordination & Reporting
- Work closely with construction teams to forecast material needs and issue status reports.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in material control within industrial or heavy civil construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of material handling, inventory control, and logistics principles.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and MS Office; experience with electronic project management systems is an asset.
- Understanding of safety regulations and quality standards.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience in managing OS&D processes and material audits.
Work Conditions:
- Based on project site; may require extended hours and weekend work.
- Physical ability to perform site walkdowns and inspections.
