About

As a Material Handler – Steel Shop at Kiwi Newton Group, you will support steel manufacturing operations by safely and efficiently moving, organizing, and staging materials throughout the facility. Working closely with production, shipping, and receiving teams, you will help maintain continuous material flow, uphold safety standards, and contribute to the successful fabrication of high-quality steel building systems. This role requires experience handling long, heavy structural steel using forklifts and overhead cranes in a fast-paced shop environment. Your attention to organization, communication, and safety will play a key role in keeping production running smoothly and efficiently.

Position Details:

  • Location: 41 Massey Rd., Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1H 7M6
  • Monday to Friday, with overtime and occasional Saturdays as required
  • Full-time, on site
  • Steel manufacturing and production environment
  • Work closely with Production, Shipping & Receiving, and Shop Supervisor

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Operate material handling equipment including forklifts (Counter Balance) and overhead cranes with long, heavy, and uneven structural steel loads
  • Maintain a continuous and efficient flow of materials to support production teams
  • Load, unload, organize, and stage structural steel and related materials
  • Ensure materials are stored safely and accurately according to shop requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Assist Shipping and Receiving operations as required
  • Follow work instructions, safety procedures, and production schedules carefully
  • Support overall shop efficiency through teamwork and clear communication

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Valid Forklift Certification required
  • Valid Overhead Crane Certification a strong asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating material handling equipment with large, heavy, or uneven loads
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting 50+ lbs
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety practices
  • Hand and power tool experience considered an asset
  • Ability to read shop drawings considered an asset
  • Strong work ethic with a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Willingness to work overtime and occasional Saturdays
