Summary of Duties:

Co-ordinates the patient care support services within the Chemotherapy Department (Systemic Therapy Program) at the Odette Cancer Centre. As an integral part of the health care team and front-line staff, responsibilities include: Providing a broad range of clerical, appointment and receptionist services; Responding to general enquiries; Scheduling outpatient tests and procedures required by the oncologists; Coordinating and scheduling electronic physician orders including chemotherapy appointments with applicable software; Preparing and delivering next day patient lists to chemotherapy nursing staff; Responsible for retrieving completed chemotherapy consents and scanning into applicable computer software; Ordering supplies; and Providing relief coverage and support services within the department. Unit Clerks will be cross-trained to function effectively in the various clerical duties within the Chemotherapy Department.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Requires the completion of one year of Community College or equivalent education
  • Minimum one year of administrative/business experience required in a health care setting preferred
  • Proven accurate keyboarding (minimum net 40 w.p.m. OR net data entry 106 k.p.m.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) as well as working knowledge of in-house computer software (e.g. Excelicare, E-sheet, EPR, and CHARM) required
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service/patient-focused approach required
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and follow-through on multiple demands with strong time management skills; attentive and flexible to multiple tasks and timelines required
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills oral, written and comprehension
  • Tact and diplomacy in handling and dealing with confidential information; sensitivity working with oncology patients and family essential
  • Requires well-developed interpersonal and team skills in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with interprofessional staff members and external stakeholders as required via telephone and email
